Blackall Range artists display their paintings

Visitors to Montville have an opportunity to view a range of local artwork, at regular exhibitions hosted by the Blackall Range Visual Artists.

The next exhibition is scheduled for Easter – from Friday March 25 to Monday March 28 – at the historic St Mary’s Hall on the Village Green.

The exhibitions are an annual event hosted by the members of the Blackall Range Visual Artists art group.

“We’re a self-help group; we do critique each other’s paintings and we push each other’s boundaries,” one of the group’s members, Barbara Willcocks, said.

“When they finish their paintings, we’ll do a critique during our morning tea, and we give advice, but they can take it or leave it.”

The 25-member group recently staged four consecutive six-day exhibitions in the Hall from Boxing Day and finishing on January 18. Around five members of the art group contributed to each exhibition.

The members meet every Thursday at the Mapleton Bowls Club.

“We enter competitions around the area; we’re a very active group, passionate about our art,” Ms Peall said.

Donations by patrons of the art exhibitions and acommission from each sold art work went towards the upkeep of St Mary’s Hall.
