The Country House B&B offers privacy and luxury in Hunchy

By Richard Bruinsma

The secluded The Country House B&B at Hunchy has been transformed by its new owners, into an unrivalled peaceful and private retreat that is also incredibly luxurious.

The Country House at Hunchy boasts an expansive homestead-style building, set amongst acres of undisturbed rainforest, and overlooking the valley to Woombye, Palmwoods and towards the coastline.

However, by far the centrepieces of the modern, luxury retreat are the two unique self-contained King Spa Suites, complete with modern décor, private ensuites and spas, and two private verandas overlooking gardens and the valley.

It’s a perfect location for a peaceful holiday, a honeymoon, or for a bride and her bridesmaids to spend time together getting dressed for her wedding.

The Country House at Hunchy owners Paul and Karin Orwin took over the Bed & Breakfast late last year, and already have completely refurbished the homestead with new modern furniture and fresh décor.

“We looked all around for a B&B, we didn’t want something with separate cabins, we wanted something with private suites,” the couple explained.

“We think there’s a market there, we have a complete different push – we’re meeting the luxury end where people are catered for and looked after in luxury.

“We want people to embrace it, to come here and try it, and we’ve already had rave reviews – our reviews on bookings.com are all 10/10 and Facebook and Trip Advisor all 5/5.”

Paul and Karin have, in fact, created something unique in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and Blackall Ranges – blissful luxury.

Aside from the private suites, The Country House at Hunchy includes a roomy lounge with library, a sitting area complete with big-screen TV and video games, a breakfast area that now also serves dinner if guests desire, and an open kitchen that allows guests to chat and laugh socially with their hosts as the meals are prepared.

Paul and Karin travelled extensively around the world during their professional lives, often staying in B&Bs, where they entertained the thought that one day they would manage a similar place of their own.

And now, in semi-retirement, they have made the move into owning and operating The Country House at Hunchy.

Their travels, however, gave them key ideas of what they believed were “must-haves” for the guests: self-contained bathrooms were vital; flexibility with the type of meals desired by their guests, including all styles from vegan and vegetarian, through to paleo; robes and slippers are important for guest comfort; and healthy fresh organic food – including free range eggs, pineapples from a nearby grower, and produce from local farms

“It’s all these little things together that help make the experience special.”

The Country House at Hunchy is located on 11 acres, which doubles as a “Land for Wildlife” refuge, so is surrounded by some eight acres of undisturbed rainforest a creek, and a handful of fruit trees.

The location is perfect for solitary walks. And a large swimming pool is set among the B&B’s gardens and trees.

The venue is located just below Montville, just a five minute drive to local shopping, coffee shops and restaurants. In fact, some restaurants will pick up guests from the homestead and drop them back after their meal – even less reason to use the car and making any stay even more relaxing.

The suites are perfect for bridal parties that want a secluded and private location – particularly brides and their wedding parties getting ready for their ceremony.

“It’s a luxurious place for wedding parties,” Paul and Karin explain.

“The suites are all big enough for a bride and bridesmaids all to fit in together, having their hair and make-up done, and enjoying a glass of bubbly.

“It’s perfect for those who just want to be a little away from the wedding venue, but get there within a handful of minutes.”

The couple also plans to one day host weddings.

The Country House at Hunchy is tucked away on a private country road just below the Blackall Range – secluded and quiet, seemingly far away but really very close to eateries and shopping, it’s an ideal location for those seeking a relaxed escape quite unsurpassed in its luxury.

Those considering such a getaway, and curious for a closer look, are invited to make an appointment for an inspection.

The Country House at Hunchy is located at 813 Hunchy Road, Hunchy, on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
