History

The Blackall Range was an important ceremonial area for Aboriginal Tribes and was first settled by Europeans in the 1870s-1880s.

Initially the primary industry was timber felling. As the land was cleared, dairy farming started, being followed later by farming of citrus, pineapples, macadamias and avocados.
In the 1920s, the area became a popular tourist destination and continued to grow. The improvement of roads in the 1970s saw a boom in tourism, as day-trips from the coast and Brisbane became possible.

The area is still renowned for the high quality of its dairy products and local produce, for local timber and artworks, and as a popular tourism destination.
