  • Montville/Flaxton

Montville is Maleny’s sister town, and the more shopping orientated of the two, with its main street lined with all sorts of different shops and businesses focussed towards the steady stream of tourists that visit from Brisbane and the Coast on the weekends. Located on the range overlooking the Sunshine Coast, it was predominantly a logging and then farming community, becoming known as a popular tourist metropolis in the early 1900’s.

With its small village charm the town is appreciated for its many different architectural styles representing Tudor, Irish, English, Bavarian, and Swiss. On weekends and during holiday periods the town is abuzz with activity, with visitors from all over coming to enjoy the many different sights and sounds of the town.

The town of Flaxton is situated between Montville and Mapleton along the Blackall Range Tourist Drive which is a popular tourist attraction for people visiting the area.

The Kondalilla Falls is located within the Kondalilla National Park, the turn off of which can be found along the main road between Montville and Flaxton. Home to over 107 bird species and the rare Pouched Frog, it was first discovered by William Skene who found it on his property while searching for cattle, and named it Bon Accord. He gave it to the Queensland Government in the 50’s, who renamed it Kondalilla which means ‘running water’ in Aboriginal language. The area is a popular tourist attraction with its walking tracks, picnic areas and swimming holes.
