Now in it’s 7th year the 2018 Maleny Music Festival, to be held in the Maleny Showgrounds from Friday August 31st to Sunday September 2nd, will provide concerts, workshops, food & market stalls, cabaret, street entertainment, poetry, children’s venue, singing and tunes sessions, licensed bars & open mic stage entertainment.
With Reggae, Gypsy Jazz, Blues and Roots, Folk, Latin, Irish, and Country the festival caters to a wide variety of musical tastes.
This family friendly event will feature acts such as Fred Smith Trio from Canberra, Kelly Brouhaha from Adelaide, Hardey McMurrick Two from Perth, Martin Pearson from Melbourne as well as The Lovey’s, Kevin Bennett, Nicole Brophy, Steve Tyson & The Train Rex plus Jesse Morris Band from NSW.
Local and Brisbane acts such as The Hillbilly Goats, Bearfoot. The Fergies , Zumpa, Dub Zoo. Barleyshakes, Mufassa, Barry Charles, Dan Horne, Cloudstreet, Estampa, The Jar, East Of West, Cigány Weaver, Canta La Tumba, My Nightingale and Sian Evans add to the dynamic line up of performers.
Rob Longstaff returns from Berlin and Jenny Fitzgibbon back from Ireland will add an international flavour to the event.
It all commences on Friday afternoon with an Indigenous Opening Ceremony and continues all weekend, culminating on Sunday with a Bushdance as well as a Finale Fathers Day Concert that will feature a selection of acts from over the weekend.
Saturday’s Street Entertainment & Children’s Workshops combine together in a Sunset Parade around the site to bring in the night of music for all the family. Led by Cuban style festival band Carnaval, it will add real vibrancy, colour and movement in combination with Carnavallia O ‘Gypsy Circus and whoever wants to join in on the parade.
